PITTSTON, Pa.—Authorities in northeastern Pennsylvania have found the body of a man who drowned in the Susquehanna River after saving others from the current.

Officials say Joseph Fowler of Kingston pulled two younger girls from the water in before slipping below the surface Wednesday afternoon.

Exeter Township fire Chief Dan Fetch says the 49-year-old's body was recovered Thursday about a mile downstream from where he was last seen.

The acting coroner in Luzerne County says Fowler's death has been ruled an accidental drowning and there will be no autopsy.
