PITTSBURGH—A Pittsburgh-area man will spend 40 to 80 years in state prison for fatally shooting a woman who complained he was being too noisy downstairs while she was trying to sleep in her apartment.

Twenty-four-year-old Taylor West claimed he was under the influence of alcohol and synthetic marijuana when he punched then shot 40-year-old Selena Roberts at her Monview Heights apartment complex in West Mifflin.

Allegheny County prosecutors say Roberts was awakened by West and some friends partying, and was shot when she went downstairs to quiet them.

Police say West punched Roberts in the face, before shooting her four times, including twice in the head.

Common Pleas Judge Jill Rangos sentenced West on Monday, immediately after finding him guilty of third-degree murder.
