PITTSBURGH—The Port Authority of Allegheny County has officially ended service at nearly a dozen little-used light rail stops as it tries to speed up travel times.

Service ended at 11 stops on Monday. Officials say the shuttered stops saw few users and the closures will cut time off other riders' commutes.

The changes affected some commuters, including one who told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he now has to hoof it on a street that doesn't have a sidewalk. Dave Donofyio says he's worried about his commute when the weather turns snowy this winter.

A spokeswoman for the Port Authority says the first commute after the closure "went smoothly."
