JOHNSTOWN, Pa.—Police have jailed a man on charges he shot somebody outside a western Pennsylvania bar, shortly before police fatally shot a motorist who sped toward them as they had the shooting suspect in custody.

State police from the Ebensburg barracks are continuing to investigate both shootings early Monday in Johnstown, about 60 miles east of Pittsburgh.

Online court records don't list an attorney for 27-year-old Shy-Tyquon Lawton who allegedly shot another man in the hip outside the bar about 12:30 a.m.

Police followed a vehicle that left the scene and arrested Lawton as he ran away from the vehicle.

While that was happening, police say a car driven by 27-year-old Elip Cheatham sped toward them, prompting three Johnstown officers to open fire, killing Cheatham.

The Tribune-Democrat of Johnstown ( http://bit.ly/QbaQNV) reports those officers remain on paid leave.
