PITTSTON, Pa.—Officials in northeastern Pennsylvania have identified a man killed in an early-morning fire in his apartment.

The Luzerne County coroner's office said 55-year-old Bernard Edwards was pronounced dead after the Pittston blaze.

The fire was reported at about 1 a.m. Wednesday in the Pittston building.

Building owner Tony Zambetti said Edwards lived in a first-floor apartment.

He said Edwards had both legs amputated and used a wheelchair, but it wasn't clear whether the disability hampered his attempts to escape the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
