The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit.ly/M3zwoA0) reports an Allegheny County judge had no choice but to impose the life sentence Wednesday against 27-year-old Vito Pelino, of Verona, because he was convicted of first-degree murder in March.
Prosecutors say Pelino was angry that 23-year-old William King had left a bar with his sister. That's why Pelino offered to drive King home in February 2011 before, instead, stabbing him 50 times and dismembering King's body.
Michael King, the victim's uncle, told Judge Edward Borkowski that Pelino was an "animal (who) deserves the death penalty."
Pelino apologized and told the judge, "I deserve every word of his anger and his feelings toward me."
