The (Lancaster) Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era ( http://bit.ly/OjglsH) says attorney Patricia Spotts said in Lancaster County Court that she will argue that jurors improperly weighed evidence in sentencing 22-year-old Jakeem Towles to death.
The judge formally imposed the death sentence Monday in the May 2010 slaying of Cornell "Young E-Z" Stewart. Prosecutors said Towles was aiming at another man and hit Stewart. Despite pleas from Spotts, the judge added another eight to 20 years on an attempted murder conviction.
Towles briefly apologized to the victim's relatives, saying he "tried to avoid everything that night" and hoped they could forgive him someday.
