Ten-year-old Khitan Devine went missing around 7 p.m. Sunday while swimming with his sister in the ocean near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Authorities say Devine's sister was rescued from the water by the Atlantic City Beach Patrol. She was holding onto a jetty when found.
A Coast Guard spokeswoman says rescuers suspended their search around dusk Sunday after searching for about two hours. It resumed Monday morning, but was called off at dusk. The spokeswoman had said a person could likely survive about eight hours in the water, based on conditions at the time.
Devine was wearing orange shorts when he went missing. Lifeguards were off duty.
