WEST CHESTER, Pa.—Trial has begun for a suburban Philadelphia man accused of having shot and killed another man in retaliation for an attempted home invasion.

Thirty-year-old Dante Lawrence of Coatesville is charged with first- and third-degree murder and a firearms count in the January 2010 slaying of 31-year-old Randy Vaughn in a Coatesville alley.

The Daily Local News of West Chester ( http://bit.ly/KbxReo) says Chester County prosecutors allege that Lawrence was outraged that someone had tried to break into the apartment he shared with his girlfriend, and he and a friend went looking for the perpetrator.

Defense attorney Michael Skinner pointed the finger at another man and cited conflicting statements by witnesses. He urged jurors Monday not to assume his client's guilt merely because he fled to another state after the shooting.
