PITTSBURGH—The first dog to regularly conduct bomb-sniffing sweeps of the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh and other facilities has retired.

County Sheriff William Mullen says K-9 Bobby joined the department as its first trained bomb-sniffer in March 2006. The dog was also used to search other buildings and was often called out to conduct sweeps at buildings and facilities that received bomb threats.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports Bobby will be replaced by Banditt, a 13-month old German shepherd imported from the Czech Republic. The dog and its handler are still in training but are scheduled to complete it on June 28.
