WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—Trial has begun for a northeastern Pennsylvania man accused of having killed a woman because she owed him money.

Twenty-two-year-old Benjamin Westbrooks of Hazleton is charged with criminal homicide in the slaying of 20-year-old Alicia Weaver of West Hazleton.

Authorities say the victim was abducted outside a nail salon and shot four times on a Foster Township road in November 2010.

Assistant District Attorney William Finnegan urged Luzerne County jurors on Tuesday to convict the defendant of first-degree murder.

Defense attorney John Pike said his client was one of three people who were with Weaver the night she was killed, and any one of them could have killed her.

He said there is "very little" direct evidence to link Westbrooks to the crime.
