Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl Williams says the Providence Portland Medical Center records are part of the investigation into why 30-year-old John Shick opened fire inside the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic on March 8. Williams says the Oregon hospital told his office to get a court order when it subpoenaed the records.
Shick was committed to the Oregon hospital in 2009 after fighting with police there.
Investigators say Shick suffered from schizophrenia and apparently believed doctors were misdiagnosing him before he shot six people before police fatally shot him. Williams tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ( http://bit.ly/IJXpRx) he expects to now get the records.
