PHILADELPHIA—A Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a man who investigators said struck a pedestrian and several cars near Temple University.

Police said an officer in an unmarked car saw a blue pickup truck jump a curb in a parking lot Thursday morning, hit several parked cars and the male Temple student. The officer fired at the truck but the man jumped out and fled.

He ran through two vacant lots and was confronted by another officer. She shot him after police said he reached for an object and told the officer to step back or he would kill her.

Police said no weapon was found on the suspect but they are searching the areas he ran through.

The Temple student, whose name wasn't released, is hospitalized in stable condition.
