WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a 14-year-old boy walking home from a youth sports center in the northeastern Pennsylvania city of Wilkes-Barre.

Investigators say Tyler Winstead died of a single-gunshot wound to the chest Thursday night. Family members say he had been playing basketball at a Catholic youth center and was headed home when he was shot.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Wilkes-Barre Mayor Tom Leighton says the city will exhaust every resource at its disposal to bring whoever is responsible to justice.
