Young children on the autism spectrum can attend a new Sensory Storytime designed just for them at Red Land Community Library.
The program will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, October 19 at the library and is primarily geared toward children from age 3 to kindergarten.
Additional programs will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Dec. 21. Youth services coordinator Nancy Duncan is including picture schedules, sensory activities and stories into this autism-friendly storytime.
Branch librarian Mary Beth Long also created a social story titled "My Library" to help parents in talking with their children about their trip to the library. The booklet is designed to help the child know what to expect. Families are encouraged to pick up a copy at the library before the program.
The program is free, and registration is requested as space is limited. Red Land Community Library is located at 48 Robin Hood Drive in Etters. To register, call the library at (717) 938-5599.
