Jillian Hamilton admits that she gets nervous and anxious before her figure skating competition.
However, when the 10-year-old has her turn on the ice, she is calm and confident.
"I'm not nervous anymore," said Jillian, of Spring Grove.
Jillian, a member of local White Rose Figure Skating Club, will be among hundreds of competitors participating in the State Games of America, which run Wednesday through Sunday, mainly in the Hershey/Harrisburg region in Dauphin County.
However, some of the competitions will be held in York County.
SGA is a biennial Olympic-style event featuring competitions between State Games gold, silver and bronze medal winners from across the nation. There are 31 states conducting or organizing statewide sports festivals known as State Games, according to SGA's website at www.stategames2013.com.
Officials from SGA and the Keystone State Games of Pennsylvania are working together to organize the games. Officials could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
The sports: The games consist of 26 competitive events, including archery, baseball, field hockey, gymnastics, judo, swimming, track and field, weightlifting and wrestling, according to SGA's news release.
The opening ceremony is at 6 p.m. Friday at the Giant Center in Hershey. The figure skating competition runs 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the York City Ice Arena, 941 Vander Ave., according to SGA.
Jillian is scheduled to compete about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to her parents, Troy and Erica Hamilton.
"I get very nervous days before she competes," Erica Hamilton said. "I can't sleep. I think I'm more nervous than she is."
Troy Hamilton said he gets emotional while watching his daughter compete. Jillian has been figure skating for about three years and competed in the Keystone State Games.
She has been practicing about three times a week to prepare for the State Games of America, her father said.
"Seeing her setting goals and working to achieve that goal with a lot of hard work and dedication means a lot," he said. "I appreciate her and how hard (her fellow competitors) work and how they have the courage that it takes to be able to perform and get on the ice by themselves."
The State Games of America runs Wednesday through Sunday. The opening ceremony is 6 p.m. Friday at the Giant Center, 550 Hershey Park Drive in Hershey.
State Games competitive events will mainly be held in Hershey/Harrisburg Region in the Dauphin County area. However, several events will be held in York County:
--Figure Skating-United States Figure Skating Association at York City Ice Arena, 941 Vander Ave. Times are 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
--Masters Swimming, noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday at Central York High School, 601 Mundis Mill Road, Springettsbury Township.
--Soccer, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and on Sunday at Red Land Soccer Complex, 250 Old Quaker Road in Newberry Township.
--Youth Swimming, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Central York High School.
--Synchronized swimming, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at York College, 441 Country Club Road in York.
