My thanks, appreciation and congratulations to the York Revolution, Cultural Alliance and the many sponsors of this year's incredible 4th of July festivities.

It was a terrific event that boasted a stadium full of free, family-friendly activities. It was a great sight to see -- families with blankets spread across the outfield, people on their feet throughout the stands and skyboxes. The musical entertainment was excellent and the fireworks display was impressive.

I recognize there was hesitancy by some in changing the traditional venue. I was delighted to see a strong, capacity crowd nevertheless.

We have a whole host of traditions in our community, and sometimes for a bevy of reasons they are forced to change. Thanks to the sponsors, staff and volunteers for keeping this tradition alive and maintaining it as a free event.

It is easy to lose sight of the expense to provide such spectacular community events. The support of the sponsors made this event occur and occur free for all to enjoy. The linkage of all our community's traditional events is, in fact, our community. I look forward to next year's 4th.

It was a terrific event, befitting the celebration of our nation's independence. My hat's off to all those involved and my sincere appreciation to the willing sponsors, Susquehanna Real Estate, Glatfelter Insurance, Bon Ton, General Dynamics, York Newspaper Co. and 101 The Rose.
