A 49-year-old woman escaped physical injury Sunday afternoon when she was carjacked at knifepoint outside a New Salem convenience store, police said.

The alleged carjacker, 26-year-old Josh Moore of Lake Meade Drive in Adams County, is now in York County Prison, according to West Manchester Township Police.

It happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. at Super 7 convenience store, 11 N. Main St., in the borough square, police said.

The woman had been shopping in the store and walked outside to find Moore in her back seat, Detective Sgt. Jeff Snell said.

"She asked him what he was doing there, and it was at that point he put a knife to her throat," Snell said. "He told her he needed a ride."

The woman was able to get away from Moore, but not before he grabbed her keys, according to Snell. He then drove off in her vehicle.

Police entered her vehicle information into a national crime database and at 12:15 a.m. Monday, Moore was pulled over in it while driving through Penn Township, Snell said; Moore was arrested without incident.

He was being held in prison Monday morning on a probation violation, the detective said.

West Manchester Township Police will file robbery and related charges against him.

Snell said Moore and the woman did not know each other. Police did not release her name.
