York City officials are accepting nominations for the annual York Awards.
Nominations are due April 1. Forms are available at City Hall, 101 S. George St., and online at www.yorkcity.org.
Mayor Kim Bracey will present the awards at her State of the City Address on Thursday, May 9.
In each of the six categories, a person or group may be nominated.
---The York Unity Award recognizes leadership in fostering "peace, understanding and growth" among people of different backgrounds and beliefs. Last year's recipient was Rebecca Moore, an anti-violence activist who founded Operation Stand Up.
---The York Entrepreneur Award recognizes economic-development contributions in the city. Last year's recipient was Jeff Lau, who opened Mudhook Brewery.
---The York Leadership Award recognizes "extraordinary leadership and service in making York a better place to live, learn, work and play." Last year's recipient was Jessica Brubaker, president of the Central Market board of directors.
---The York Humanitarian Award recognizes "unyielding sacrifice, persistence and love" to improve the quality of life for others. Doctors Bruce Bushwick and Gordon Zubrod received the 2012 award for their work on the Barbers With a Heart Program.
---The York Public Arts Award recognizes contributions to the York arts community.
Last year, the mayor gave three art-related awards. The recipients were Chad Taylor, Patrick Dahlheimer and Chad Gracey, York natives of the rock band Live; Jeff Koons, a well-known contemporary artist; and poet and playwright Dorothy King.
---And, finally, the new YorkScape Award will honor a person or group that "made extraordinary and recognizable contributions to cleaning, beautifying or lighting the streets, avenues, lanes and building facades of the city of York."
