A Manchester Township man has admitted to shooting his baby's mother in the jaw during an argument last summer.
Shan William Mehaffie, 23, of 102 Heidelberg Ave., pleaded guilty in York County Court Wednesday to attempted homicide and carrying a firearm without a license.
His attorney, public defender Ron Jackson Jr., said there was no negotiated agreement with prosecutors, meaning presiding Common Pleas Judge Richard K. Renn will decide Mehaffie's punishment.
Sentencing is set for April 17.
York City Police said Mehaffie and Alejandra Vazquez were arguing on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Union Street about 1 a.m. Aug. 3 when he pulled out a .22-caliber handgun, pointed it at her head and fired twice.
Vazquez turned away as Mehaffie was firing, and one round struck her near the jaw, police said. She was treated and released from York Hospital, a hospital spokesman said at the time.
Mehaffie fled the shooting scene in a car before officers arrived, but was tracked down and captured a short time later in the 600 block of Albright Avenue, near the city border with North York, according to police, who also recovered Mehaffie's gun.
The search for Mehaffie centered on North George Street near the Codorus Creek, and city police were assisted by officers from Northern York County Regional Police, West Manchester Township Police and a K-9 unit from Springettsbury Township Police.
