A longtime York City firefighter has been promoted to captain.
Capt. Jeffrey Miller has spent almost 20 years as a full-time firefighter with the department. He will now serve in the city's Fire Prevention Bureau, according to a news release.
Miller earned a number of awards during his career, including Firefighter of the Year in 1995 and several letters of commendation.
One of those commendations came in 2000, after Miller performed CPR on a patient for two hours on a plane until it landed in Hawaii, officials said.
He earned another commendation for his efforts to rescue a man impaled on a fence at the York Fairgrounds in 2007.
Miller and his wife, Pat Miller, have two daughters and three grandchildren.
He could not be reached for comment.
