While most folks were counting down the Twelve Days of Christmas, police in Springettsbury Township were also counting down the crimes of Christmas.

Chief among them? Shoplifting.

Between Dec. 5 and Dec. 18 alone, officers were called to 27 different shoplifting incidents at township businesses.

There were 15 at Walmart, four at Giant Food Store and one each at Bon-Ton, Best Buy, JC Penney, Kohl's, Target, Boscov's, GNC and Kmart, according to Springettsbury Township Police.

Officers arrested 11 people, all of whom are being charged with retail theft, police said.

Also during the same time period, officers investigated 14 hit-and-run crashes, most of which happened in the parking lots of businesses around the township, police said.
