For the past 35 years, the 4th District Internship Association has upheld its mission to give local college students the opportunity to participate in the democratic process. This year, the association is continuing that tradition by announcing the opening of the 2013 Summer Internship Program application process.
The application deadline for the summer 2013 program is Jan. 15, and applications are open to all undergraduate college students who reside in the 4th Congressional District of Pennsylvania and will have completed at least their freshman year of studies by the beginning of the internship.
The six area college students who are selected for the program will spend the majority of their summer (mid-May through mid-August) working as full-time interns for Rep. Scott Perry, R-Dillsburg. These students will spend five weeks of their internship serving in Washington, D.C., where they will assist with legislative projects, and another five weeks working in one of the congressman's district offices (located in Wormleysburg, Gettysburg, and York), where they will assist with constituent casework.
Students will receive a weekly stipend for the entirety of the internship. During the Washington, D.C., portion of the internship, the 4th District Internship Association will provide students with free housing at an area university within walking distance to public transportation. Housing will not be provided for interns while they work in the district offices.
The 4th District Internship Association chooses its student interns based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, and a demonstrated commitment to the ideals of public service. Interns are selected on a non-partisan basis.
