Three Mile Island will test its new siren system for three minutes at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, a news release from the company said.
More tests are scheduled over the next month. On Thursday, Nov. 1 six separate tests will be conducted beginning at 8 a.m., and on Thursday, Nov. 15 another three-minute test is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Exelon Generation installed the new system around the Three Mile Island Generating Station as part of a $13 million investment to upgrade the sirens around the company's nuclear stations.
The new system has 96 sirens with improved sound coverage and battery back-up capability to ensure the sirens can provide notification if electrical service is interrupted.
A postcard announcing the testing schedule was sent to all residents who live within the TMI Emergency Planning Zone.
