Giant Food Stores on Wednesday announced three product recalls:
* Clemmy's Ice Cream issued a recall for its peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream, warning it may contain peanut butter associated with Sunland, Inc.
New Mexico-based Sunland has expanded its recall of peanut butter that could be contaminated with salmonella, the company announced on its website.
Customers who purchased the 16-ounce Clemmy's Ice Cream with Best-By dates from February 2013 through August 2014 should discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to Giant for a full refund, the grocery chain said in an announcement.
* General Mills also issued a recall for its Cascadian Farm brand of organic, peanut butter chip granola bar because it, too, may have been supplied by Sunland.
Code dates involved in the Cascadian Farm recall are 01NOV2012 and 02NOV2012.
Customers should discard any unused portions and bring their receipt to Giant for a full refund, the company said.
No illnesses have been reported, according to the release.
Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common foodborne illnesses. The bacteria can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, fever, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting.
Salmonellosis can sometimes cause fatal infections, especially to those with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, those undergoing chemotherapy and people with HIV.
* Giant also announced this week that Kellogg's recalled certain packages of its Frosted Mini Wheats.
The cereal in both 18-ounce and 24-ounce boxes have the letters "KB, AP, FK, HG" preceding or following the expiration date, according to the announcement.
Kellogg's recalled the product during to the "unlikely, but possible," presence of flexible metal mesh from a manufacturing plant.
It is considered a Class II recall, which involves "a potential health hazard where there is a remote probability of a health problem if the food is eaten," according to the Giant website.
No illnesses have been reported in association with the cereal recall.
