A Glen Rock man who saw his 10-year-old son get into a fight with another boy reacted by tossing his son a metal baseball bat and urging him to "take out" the other child, according to police.

Jason Chittum's son did as he was instructed, hitting his 10-year-old neighbor with the bat and causing him minor injuries, Southern Regional Police said.

Chittum's son had been involved in a verbal fight with some alleged physical contact when his father threw him the bat, police said.

Chittum, 33, of the first block of Manchester Street, will be charged with corruption of a minor and reckless endangerment, police said.

Police said the incident happened Sept. 16 in Chittum's block and that charges are being filed with District Judge Jeff Joy.
