York City will host the Seventeenth Annual Bike Night downtown on Friday, Sept. 28, from 6-10 p.m.

Motorcycles are expected to arrive in downtown York around 6 p.m., when a parade leaves the York Fairgrounds by the Market Street gate and travels east on West Market Street, north on Broad Street, and west on Philadelphia Street and back to the downtown area.

Motorists along the route should expect delays while the roads are closed briefly for the parade, city officials said, offering King and Princess streets as alternate routes for east-and-west bound travel.

The following streets will be closed from 5:30 p.m. until about 10:30 p.m., with parking restricted starting at 4 p.m.:

-- West Market Street from Pershing Avenue to Queen Street

-- Beaver Street from West King Street to West Philadelphia Street

-- George Street from King Street to Philadelphia Street

-- Pershing Avenue from West King Street to West Philadelphia Street

Parking will be available in the public garages on Philadelphia and King streets. The Market Street garage will be closed.

People traveling in the area should expect delays, and officials urge them to "pay attention" to those directing traffic.

Dogs and bicycles are not permitted within the event area.

City officials said parade participants who drive recklessly will be subject to arrest and their vehicles could be impounded. Motorcycles not moved from traffic lanes downtown by 10 p.m. will be towed at the owner's expense, they said.
