The YWCA York has extended the deadline for entering this year's Halloween Parade, set for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in York.

The YW hopes to make the 63rd annual event the largest to date, the organization said, and has extended the entry deadline from Sept. 24 to Oct. 1.

The YW recently announced this will be the last year it serves as host of the parade.

"We hope to make this a really successful year, and want to give the most time possible to allow companies and organizations to join the parade." said Jennifer Brillhart, chief development officer of YWCA York.

The 2012 parade theme is Health and Fitness. Sue Schmidt is this year's grand marshal. She jump-started the Girls on the Run program at YWCA York - a program for pre-teen girls that boosts their confidence through running activities.

The Pumpkin Fun Run, a 1-mile run along the parade route, will kick off at 1:45 PM on parade day. Registrations are now being accepted for the fun run.

Forms are available online at www.ywcayork.org. If you would like to volunteer or learn more about entering the parade and other opportunities, please call the YWCA at 717-845-2631 or visit YWCA York online at www.ywcayork.org.
