Bring on Play will host its fourth community playground build Friday at Penn Park in York City.
The first phase of the project, a play-garden for 2- to 5-year-olds, will be completed this week by community volunteers. The current playground will remain onsite until the final project is completed in the spring. The complete project includes two play-gardens (ages 2-5 and 5-12), a spray-garden, a rain garden and a history fence.
The design of the equipment reflects the military history of the area. The equipment colors (red, blue and gray) and the many "fort-like" structures mimic the Civil War era.
Agencies providing funds for the project include the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the YMCA of York County, the York Water Co., Kaboom, Beautiful York, Crispus Attucks, Wecology and the Peaceful Warriors, Greydon Inc., and Sweet Frog York. The budget for the project is $680,000.
The BOP committee is still seeking funds to complete the project. Contact Penn Park chairwoman Cori Strathmeyer at cstrathmeyer@yorkcoymca.org about sponsorship.
