Rabbit Transit's 80-space Park and Ride location in Shrewsbury will close as of Friday. It has been on loan from Shipley Energy since 2010.

More than 100 commuters each day depart from the location via the Rabbit Express bus, a vanpool or a carpool, said Richard Farr, Rabbit executive director.

The York Metropolitan Planning Organization has allocated $1.3 million for construction of a new Park and Ride. The funds will be available through a Federal Transit Administration grant later this fall.

Once the funds are available, Rabbit Transit plans to seek proposals for the construction.

Meanwhile, Rabbit Transit is seeking community help to identify an alternative parking location in the Shrewsbury area. It is also seeking help from businesses and landowners in the area to assist during the transition time as the Park and Ride is constructed. Interested parties may call Rabbit Transit at 717-849-0709.
