Lutheran Home Care & Hospice will hold hospice volunteer training programs for all individuals interested in serving their local community from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 11, 18 and 25 at the Village at Sprenkle Drive's Conference Room in York, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13, 20 and 27 at Zimmerman Place at Shrewsbury Lutheran Retirement Village.

The program is free, but registration is required. Individuals with prior hospice experience are welcome to apply, and a full training will not be necessary. Training will focus on the hospice philosophy of care and the role of the hospice volunteer in hospice care.

Hospice volunteers assist and support those living with a terminal illness and their families by providing emotional support to the clients and their families, relief and respite to caregivers and by being a friend when companionship is needed most.
