Girls on the Run York is now inviting those interested in coaching opportunities to join the Girls on the Run team.
All necessary training and coaching materials will be provided, and you do not have to be a runner to be a coach.
The program will launch its fourth fall season beginning the week of Sept. 17. Training for new coaches will be provided at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at the YWCA York, 320 E. Market St.
Girls on the Run of York, part of Girls on the Run International and an affiliate program of the YWCA York, is a non-profit, character development program for girls in grades 3-8. The program meets after school two days per week and combines running with a curriculum designed to promote good choices for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.
At the end of the season, the girls choose and conduct a community project and complete a 5K together as a group.
To begin a new site or become a coach, contact Program Coordinator Julie Shilke at jshilke@ywcayork.org or 717-434-1748. For more information about the Girls on the Run York Fall 2012 season and volunteer opportunities visit us at www.gotryork.org.
