Yikeem Williams (submitted)

A man wanted in a hit-and-run that involved a West York Police officer turned himself in to authorities last week.

Yikeem Williams, 24, of York City walked into district judge Walter Groom's office on July 17 and turned himself in, according to borough police.

He was released on his own recognizance after being arraigned with escape and scattering rubbish, according to online court documents.

On July 7, an officer on foot patrol saw Williams allegedly urinating in a parking lot in the first block of Overbrook Avenue. When the officer tried to stop Williams, he jumped into a silver BMW driven by Jose Yomar Leon-Ortiz, 23, of Spring Garden Township, police said.

Leon-Ortiz then allegedly struck the officer with the car. The officer escaped serious injury by partially jumping out of the way but suffered minor injuries to his hands and arms.

U.S. Marshals arrested Leon-Ortiz in York City earlier this month on charges stemming from the incident.
