Roundtop Mountain Resort used to get calls from would-be campers in Virginia, claiming they'd come only if they could spend the night.
Many guests of the Warrington Township site's popular day camps requested the same, said Chris Dudding, marketing manager.
To meet those requests, Roundtop has added overnight camping to its offerings.
Beginning July 9, the overnight camps will run for three consecutive weeks, Sunday through Friday, at a cost of $799 per week. The price includes lodging, three meals a day, snacks and activities.
To accommodate the new offering, Roundtop renovated its overnight facilities, which include air conditioning, restrooms and kitchens, though most campers will eat in the main lodge, Dudding said.
"For a summer camp bunk house, it's very, very nice," he said. "It's not rustic at all."
The overnight camps are open to children ages 12 to 17, and about 40 kids have already signed up, Dudding said. To register, visit www.skiroundtop.com/camps.htm.
When day camps first started there a few years ago, 72 kids signed up for two weeks. Now, it has ballooned to 96 kids signed up each week for 10 weeks.
Dudding expects the same surge with the overnight camps, which are more intensive than the adventure camps held during the day, he said.
Day camps, tailored to children ages 8 to 15, include adventures with ziplines, kayaking and rock climbing.
During the overnight camps, children will get to do those things at a greater depth, even if they're beginners, he said.
"None of our activities require any experience at all," he said. "They are very safe activities that offer a lot of thrills."
