After just one day in effect, Met-Ed is suspending its Easy Green program indefinitely.

The decision was announced Thursday after a volume of customer complaints, according to spokesman Chris Eck.

Wednesday marked the first day of the program, which was designed to reduce demand for electric use on the hottest days of the year.

As 90-degree temperatures swaddled the region this week, customers complained their homes were too hot, Eck said. In some cases, their central air wasn't kicking on at all.

Now that the program has been suspended, customers' air conditioning should work normally, Eck said.

Met-Ed is conducting a thorough review of Easy Green, along with the third party that administers the program, to determine effectiveness and operation.

Customers who enrolled signed a contract that is effective through September, but there is no timetable for the completion of the review, any changes that need to be made, of if and when the program will be reactivated, he said.
