A crash killed a Springettsbury Township woman on Interstate 83 shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Jessena Marie Dougherty, 20, was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris southbound on I-83 in Conewago Township, near mile marker 27, said Trooper Ed Asbury, Pennsylvania State Police spokesman.
The car left the right side of the roadway, traveled up an embankment and rolled over several times before coming to rest on the embankment, Asbury said.
Dougherty, who was traveling alone, was ejected and thrown 68 feet away from her car, into the parking lot of ES3 distribution center at 4875 N. Susquehanna Trail, near Cross Farm Lane, he said.
It took emergency crews about an hour to find Dougherty in the dark, he said.
"It's very rare to find a body that far away from the car," he said. "It's not routine to walk a large area and not find the driver."
The cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma, and no autopsy will be performed, Cosey said.
State police are investigating what caused Dougherty to lose control. Investigators typically call upon witness testimony, cell phone records and a toxicology report, Asbury said.
"I'm sure to travel up an embankment like that ... she was traveling at a speed greater than was prudent for that roadway," Asbury said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 428-1011.
