West York School District is looking to complete about $100,000 worth of summer projects.

Business manager George Fike said the district will replace one of the roof-top HVAC units at the high school.

Fike told the school board the unit is very old and a new unit will cost about $45,000 and operate more efficiently, allowing the district to save about $15,000 per year in energy costs.

"We'll see the payback from this replacement in less than three years," Fike said.

Also on the summer repair list are the doors at the high school gymnasium. The doors and a gym divider will be replaced at a cost of approximately $62,500.

Superintendent Emilie Lonardi said the gym will be heavily used even if the district moves forward with a high school improvement plan that could include a new gymnasium.

"These doors are 53 years old," she said. "It is time we replace them."

The district will also replace some outdated fluorescent lighting in the administration office. The lights will cost the district less to operate.

Money for the projects was included in the district's 2011-12 budget, Fike said.
