Route 15 will see increased traffic enforcement this weekend, most of which will be part of police patrol efforts by four state police agencies.

As part of "Operation Border to Border," state police officials from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina will step up patrols from Friday to Sunday, according to a state police news release.

The effort is aimed at preventing crashes on the entire length of Route 15.

State police from all four states will work together, conducting saturation patrols, sobriety checkpoints and other initiatives to reduce crashes and combat criminal behavior, the release said.

In Pennsylvania, troopers investigated 115 crashes on Route 15 in 2011, which increased from 85 in 2010.

The primary causes for these crashes include speeding, distracted or careless driving, and aggressive driving, the release said.
