An antique gun thought to be stolen from a Springettsbury Township home, with a reproduction gun left in its place, has been located and was never actually stolen.
The gun, which was on display above a fireplace, was reported stolen in March by the 80-year-old homeowner.
The woman had work done in her home by Compleat Restorations, and when she removed plastic that had been put up to keep dust off the fireplace the gun was missing.
Township police confirmed that the gun was located in the home and that the woman had put it away while the work crew was there.
When the homeowner noticed the gun was missing, the Compleat Restorations crew was questioned by a company supervisor who found that they were not involved in the incident, said Mike Rose, the York branch manager.
Rose also encouraged the woman to contact police, he said.
