Thousands of York County households were without electricity Sunday evening after a powerful storm knocked over trees and power lines, but nearly all had power again by Monday morning.

Wind downed tree branches and power lines as the storm passed through the area, knocking out service to about 5,300 Met-Ed customers, said company spokeswoman Kathy Seilhamer.

Outages were scattered throughout the northern and eastern parts of the county, especially affecting York City and Chanceford, Newberry and York townships.

Met-Ed had restored power to about 4,000 customers by late Sunday night, Seilhamer said.

As of about 8 a.m. Monday, only 31 customers remained without power, she said, with small concentrations of damage in Springettsbury, East Manchester and Manchester townships.

She said power should be restored to all customers by noon Monday.

More rain and thunderstorms are likely over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered showers are forecast through Thursday. Temperatures are not expected to hit 70 degrees until Thursday.
