A West York woman already on probation left her children alone in her apartment while she tried to break into a home Thursday, borough police said.
Amber N. Newcomer, 29, of 1202 W. King St., second floor, is charged with attempted burglary and criminal trespass, police said.
She remains in county prison on $15,000 bail and a probation-violation detainer, officials said.
The York County Office of Children, Youth and Families took Newcomer's children into protective custody from her unattended apartment.
Newcomer and another woman, who has not yet been charged, allegedly tried to force a window air conditioning unit into a home in the 1100 block of West King Street in an attempt to break into the home about 3 p.m., police said.
The resident was inside the home at the time and called police after hearing noises, police said.
When officers arrived, Newcomer and the other woman tried to flee and hide but were arrested, police said.
Newcomer was wearing an ankle bracelet monitoring device and is on probation for prior drug offenses, police said.
