Employees at two Springettsbury Township stores on East Market Street in the York Marketplace were evacuated for more than two hours after police learned there might be a bomb attached to a parked vehicle there.

Springettsbury Township Police Lt. Daniel Stump said police had reason to believe an explosive device was attached to a flatbed truck. He declined to say how they received that information, but said it came in about 10:30 a.m.

Soon after, officers evacuated Lowe's and Office Max, then called in a state police bomb squad, Stump said.

The bomb squad used a remote-controlled robot fitted with a camera to get a closer look at the flatbed, but found nothing.

About 12:50 p.m., the all-clear was given and employees were allowed to return to the stores.

Stump said the incident wasn't a random act, but he declined to elaborate.

He said the matter is now an active criminal investigation.
