Update:

New York Wire in York City was evacuated for about an hour and a half Tuesday as city firefighters put out a fire in the plant's ductwork.

The fire was reported about 4:50 p.m. by a truck driver who saw flames on the roof of the plant's tower, said Capt. Chad Deardorff of York City Fire/Rescue.

A carbon dioxide fire suppression system at the 441 E. Market St. plant was activated but the since the fire was above the system, firefighters had to manually extinguish the blaze, he said.

Plant maintenance workers assisted firefighters, who had to climb on top of the roughly five-story tower.

A times, flames could be seen coming from a ventilation pipe.

East Market Street at Broad Street was closed as crews worked the scene. It reopened about 6:30 p.m.
