Here's your chance to eat food and laugh out loud in a library.
The York County Heritage Trust will host a new monthly Lunch with the Librarians program that gives the public the opportunity to meet the trust's librarians, discuss topics relating to history and genealogy, and ask questions.
Lunch with the Librarians will have its first session from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday in the trust's Historical Society Museum at 250 E. Market St. in York City.
Sessions throughout the year will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. the first Friday of each month. The program will be led by Lila Fourhman-Shaull, the trust's
director of library and archives, and assistant director Victoria Miller.
"We've never done this before, but thought it would be a great way to sit and visit and enjoy a meal at the same time," Fourhman-Shaull said. "This is a more casual kind of atmosphere. We can laugh if we wish."
Friday's topic is family Bibles. In June, the session will be the Civil War. Archival preservation will be discussed July 6. Genealogical books are the topic for August.
Food: For lunch, participants can either bring their own food or pay $10 for a boxed lunch by the first Wednesday of each month. Session topics are chosen according to other activities happening at the trust, Fourhman-Shaull said.
Family Bibles will be discussed Friday because the trust and the South Central Pennsylvania Genealogical Society will be recording information from the public's family Bibles from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the trust's facility.
The information will be used to start historical profiles on local families or to add family facts to already existing profiles. So far, the trust's library has historical information on more than 8,000 families, Fourhman-Shaull said.
This is the second year for the family Bible history program. Last year, about 10 families brought in more than 15 Bibles, Fourhman-Shaull said.
"We love to add information to the families' files," she said. "We get researchers from all over the United States, people researching family history. We like to say all roads lead to York."
