With summer in sight, the YMCA of York County is hosting Healthy Kids Day to encourage students to stay active during the months kids are most likely to gain weight and fall behind academically.
On Saturday, three YMCA branches in York County will offer kids and families a free activities at Healthy Kids Day.
The community events will be held rain or shine.
"At the YMCA of York County, we know that when the school year ends, many kids lose exposure to activities that keep them moving and learning," said Larry Richardson, CEO of the YMCA of York County.
"Healthy Kids Day will help parents begin thinking early about what their kids need to stay physically and intellectually active in the summer," he added.
The Bob Hoffman Branch will feature a simulated smokehouse, free blood pressure checks and ambulance tours, crafts, ice cream sundaes and snacks, parachute games, face painting, and appearances by the Chick-fil-A cow mascot.
At the Southern Branch, families can look forward to zumba, soccer clinics, dance and lacrosse introductions, martial arts demonstrations, swim evaluations, gymnastics, a moon bounce, and a Home Depot kids' workshop.
The fun at the York YMCA includes a visit from York Revolution mascot Downtown, an Imagination Playground from BOP, inflatable slides, face painting, sports, Safety Smart Child ID from Baltimore Life, and graffiti T-shirts by YMCA Camp Spirit.
