Children and young adults from Leg Up Farm will get to party with Scruff McGruff and Downtown from the York Revolution at this Saturday's Spring Fling.

A fire truck, police cruiser, clowns, two bounce houses and plenty of carnival games with prizes and face painting will provide entertainment, along with live music on the patio by the Dallastown alumni jazz band.

More than 350 Leg Up Farm students and their families are registered to attend the Spring Fling, organized by Leadership York.

Leg Up Farm is a nonprofit therapy center for children with a variety of special needs.

"It's a great opportunity for all of the families to come together on the same day and have the kids interact, and to have the families meet other families that they've maybe never seen before," said Tom O'Connor, development director with Leg Up Farm.

The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Leg Up Farm, 4880 North Sherman St. in Mount Wolf.

Leg Up Farm's new playground will also be ready for use, O'Connor said.

About 1,200 volunteers built the playground in just one week last fall.

"It's a barrier-free playground," said O'Connor. "It has a lot of elements you find at other playgrounds, but we have some unique features like climbing pods and a pool table. The therapists can use a lot of pieces on the playground for therapy."

Physical, occupational and speech-language therapy are available, as well as educational programs, behavioral health services and therapeutic horseback riding are available at the facility.

The team at Leg Up Farm has helped more than 600 children since opening in April 2010, said O'Connor.

Leadership York is a leadership training program under the United Way.

This is the second year a group from the program has organized an event on behalf of Leg Up Farm. Last year a group planned a prom for the children who use the facility.
