Residents of a North York home were awakened early Wednesday morning by the sound of someone breaking in.

The burglary happened in the 1400 block of North George Street about 3:13 a.m., according to Northern York County Regional Police.

The residents were asleep when they heard a loud noise coming from the living room of their home. When they went to investigate, they discovered a light was on in a spare bedroom and a living room window was open with its screen and curtains torn away from the window, police said.

Nothing appeared to have been taken and police believe the intruder was scared off by the sound of the residents, said Lt. David Lash.

The intruder was gone by the time the residents got to the living room, police said.

A neighbor reported seeing an unknown male leaving the area of the residents' home and fleeing the area on foot. No description could be provided of the fleeing subject, police said.
