Police on Friday arrested a man who alleged forced his way inside a Springettsbury Township home. But the would-be burglar backed off when the homeowner confronted him with a gun, police said.

About 8:20 a.m., Shawn H. Flaharty got inside the home in the 2600 block of North Sherman Street, where he was confronted by the homeowner, Springettsbury Township Police said.

The homeowner, whose name was not released, held Flaharty at bay until the burglar fled, according to police.

Flaharty the tried to break into a neighboring home, but was scared off by dogs there, police allege.

Flaharty, 38, of Springettsbury Township is being charged with felony criminal trespass and public drunkenness, according to a police.

Nothing was stolen, police said.
