York County dominated Central Penn Parent's Healthcare Heroes competition with local winners in five out of the 12 categories.

Three of Memorial Hospital's finalists were named winners in their respective categories.

Robert Elicker won Volunteer of the Year, Joyce Page won Nurse of the Year, and Dr. Hugh Palmer was named Physician of the Year.

"Everyone at Memorial Hospital is so proud of our winners. This was another affirmation that the Memorial family is made up of the best and brightest. I feel very fortunate to work with such exceptional people," said Sally Dixon, president and CEO of Memorial Hospital.

The Dental and Oral Care Hero winner was David J. Uhrik of West Side Dental, 970 Loucks Road. A group of emergency responders from Hanover Hospital won the category of Allied Health & Emergency Medicine Hero.

The awards ceremony breakfast was held late last month at the Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey, where the winners received glass plaques.

Memorial Hospital also recognized the duo of Diane Dietz and Kendra Greene, switchboard operators, as their Hospital Hero. Hospitals across Central Pennsylvania could choose Hospital Heroes to receive recognition at the awards ceremony.

Central Penn Parent's Healthcare Heroes is a regional competition run by the Central Penn Business Journal.

It began in 2008 and recognizes outstanding physicians, nurses, volunteers, health educators and organizations making a difference in health care.
