A York Haven-area man died Thursday night in East Manchester Township when the Ford Ranger he was driving went off the road and struck the roof of a home, a parked pickup truck and a boat on a trailer, police said.

The Ranger ended up on its roof, Northeastern Regional Police Chief Bryan Rizzo said.

Kevin Wilkerson, 25, of the 900 block of Locust Avenue in Newberry Township, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:55 p.m. crash, York County Deputy Coroner Steve Cosey said. No autopsy is planned.

Wilkerson died of multiple injuries, Cosey said.

His passenger, a 21-year-old woman, suffered head injuries and was flown to York Hospital by medical helicopter, according to Rizzo. At this point, her injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening, he said; her name has not yet been released.

The crash: Wilkerson was headed northbound in the 5200 block of North George Street Extended, near the intersection of Rentzel Lane, when he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the road, the chief said.

"He hit a guard rail and a telephone pole, and went over an embankment," Rizzo said.

The house there sits lower than the road, and the airborne SUV struck and damaged the home's roof, primarily the rain gutter, according to the chief.

The Ranger also struck a pickup truck parked in the driveway, as well as a boat on a trailer that also was parked there, Rizzo said.

Landed on roof: The Ranger flipped on its roof and landed on the driveway, he said.

No one inside the home was injured and they weren't displaced by the damage their home sustained, the chief said. That damage was mostly exterior.

The pickup truck was badly damaged, with its tailgate and roof crushed, Rizzo said, and the boat also sustained damage, primarily to the engine area.

Speeding: "Speed was definitely a factor (in the crash)," Rizzo said. He noted the Ranger left no skidmarks on the road, meaning it apparently didn't brake before going off the embankment.

That portion of North George Street Extended was closed for about three hours, he said, and fire police from Manchester's Union Fire Engine Co. No. 1 redirected traffic.

Rizzo said investigators are looking for anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have information about it. Call police at 266-6195.
